The history of Gaggenau ( excerpt from the community website ):

Located at the foot of the Murgtal, the place was first mentioned in 1243. In the 17th century, Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm laid the foundation for the industrial development of Gaggenau by leasing the newly built hammer mill, which over the years developed into a vibrant industrial center. In addition to the listed glassworks, whose fine glass products pleased a wide range of buyers worldwide, the traditional factory of Daimler AG still stands here today - the oldest car factory in Germany and the cradle of the world-famous Unimog. A museum is dedicated to this universal motor device, which was produced in Gaggenau for over half a century. Gaggenau's industrial spectrum includes a number of other well-known companies, medium-sized businesses and specialist shops for high-end needs such as Dambach-Werke, Protektorwerk Florenz Maisch, Holzwerke Rahner, Franz Grötz, Gerhard Lang, König Metall, Z-Müller, City-Kaufhaus, Kohlbecker Architekten & Engineers and many others are indispensable. The large district town of Gaggenau with its 31,000 inhabitants is not only an attractive business location but also a popular city to live in; thanks to new urban development accents with a wide range of health, school, leisure and cultural offerings and optimal transport connections.
